Marriage In The Catholic Church Required Documents

- Baptismal Certificate with all Baptismal Register notations: Issued from church of Baptism not more than 6 months prior to the date of the proposed marriage (required for Catholic and for baptized non- Catholic Christians). Original required; copy not acceptable.
- Pre-Nuptial Investigation Form (one each for bride/bridegroom): Completed by priest, deacon, or authorized parish staff person. Original required; copy not acceptable.
- Pre-Nuptial Witness Testimony Forms (number as required by your diocese): Completed by priest, deacon, or authorized parish staff person. Original required; copy not acceptable.
- Permission of a Catholic party's proper pastor; if marriage is to be celebrated in a parish that is not his/her own proper parish. Original required; copy not acceptable.
- Permission of the Catholic party's proper bishop or delegate; if marrying a baptized non-Catholic. Original required; copy not acceptable.
- Dispensation from the Catholic party's proper bishop or delegate; if marrying a non-baptized person. Original required; copy not acceptable.
- If it can be celebrated without serious inconveniences, Catholics who have not yet received the sacrament of Confirmation are to receive it before being admitted to marriage.
- The priest or deacon who will be officiating at the marriage (if other than from the Diocese of Sacramento) must provide a "letter of good standing" from his bishop or Religious Superior.
- Certification of participation in a Catholic Church approved marriage preparation program; e.g. Engaged Encounter, Evenings for Engaged or Pre-Cana. Copy acceptable.
Please note that the couple must also participate in an overview session on Natural Family Planning and be encouraged to pursue further training. - State of California Marriage License must be presented at rehearsal.
No marriage license - no marriage!

- All Required Documents are to be collected by the priest/deacon of your parish.
- Documents are to be forwarded to Corpus Christi Church through the Chancery Office of the Diocese in which they are collected (if other than the Diocese of Sacramento).
- Documents not so sent and approved by the Chancery Office of the Diocese in which collected will not be accepted.
- Required documents must be received in this parish no later than two months prior to the proposed marriage date.
- Until the required documents are received in this parish, any scheduling as to date, time, or place, proposed marriage is tentative and conditional on their being received on time.
- It is the responsibility of the parties of the proposed marriage to ensure that Required Documents are received in this parish.
- Contact a priest/deacon of your parish immediately regarding your proposed marriage, required preparation and documents. Some parishes require six months notification.
- Marriages must be officiated by a Catholic bishop, priest or deacon and shall be celebrated according to the official Catholic Marriage Rite. See booklet Marriage is for Keeps or Together for Life for official Catholic Rite of Marriage and appropriate Scripture readings. Non-Scripture readings may not be used.
- Music and songs for use at weddings are to be appropriate and approved by the officiating bishop, priest or deacon.
